Our research
The University of Bonn offers creative scientific work and promotes talented researchers. Our university holds the coveted title of University of Excellence, through which the federal and state governments support top university research. We are the only university in Germany with six clusters of excellence - in these alliances, scientists conduct joint research across disciplines on particularly relevant complexes of topics.
Research in physiology deals with all processes of the body and the brain. At the Institute of Physiology in Bonn, we focus on two main areas:
Physiology I
The Institute of Physiology I studies the cardiovascular system with the aim of improving cardiac function after irreversible loss of cardiac cells.
Research Group Fleischmann
Research Group Sasse
Information on the working group is currently being updated.
Research Group Malek-Mohammadi
Physiology II
The Institute of Physiology II specializes in neurophysiology. The focus of this research is on understanding physiological and cellular processes in neurons, at their synapses, and how these control entire neuronal networks that ultimately control behavior.
Research Group Grunwald Kadow
We combine neuroscience and physiology to understand how the brain and body communicate at the cellular and molecular levels to allow organisms to thrive optimally in their respective environments.
Project Group Cichy
We use a combination of state-of-the-art mouse genetics methods, behavioral assays, and in vivo derivations to investigate the neural circuits and molecular mechanisms that alter the perception of odor under different physiological conditions.
Research Group Stein
The Stein Working Group is concerned with neurophysiological issues.
Information on Working Group Stein is currently being updated.
